Out history

It all started in 2018, with a need and a dream.

In our community, small farmers struggled against unfair prices, abusive intermediaries, and a lack of technical support. We saw how our efforts were not reflected in the well-being of our families.

It was then that a group of producers, sharing the same concern, decided to join together. We were few, but we had something in common: the desire to progress together.

We discussed the idea of forming an agricultural cooperative, joining forces to negotiate better prices, commit to sustainable agriculture, and promote holistic development in society and the environment. We created our QORIQAO AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE LTDA – COQAO. The first few months weren't easy. We had to learn about organization, legal registration, resource management, and certifications.

We sought support from institutions and knocked on doors, though some closed, others opened. With patience and effort, we managed to formalize our cooperative.

Little by little, more farmers joined. We implemented good agricultural practices, achieved certifications, secured fair trade agreements, and, most importantly, strengthened our community.

Today, our cooperative not only generates better income for its members, but also supports new generations of producers, promoting a model of sustainable and solidarity-based agriculture.

Looking back, I'm proud to see what we've accomplished. What began as a shared dream is now a reality.

Products

The CCN-51 cocoa variety

(Castro Naranjal 51 Collection) is one of the most widely grown varieties in the San Martín region, especially in Ecuador, Peru, and other Latin American countries. It has become the predominant variety in cacao production by our Qoriqao producers.

Criollo cocoa

It is one of the finest varieties from our QORIQAO farms, appreciated worldwide for its superior flavor and aroma. However, it is less productive and more susceptible to disease compared to other varieties such as Forastero or the hybrid.
